Valuing and Honoring Indigenous Communities

The celebration of National Indigenous Peoples Month 2024 and the 27th year of the Indigenous Peoples Rights Act is a time to recognize the contributions, culture, and rights of Indigenous Peoples in the Philippines. With the theme “Mga Katutubo at Katutubong Dunong: Pahalagahan, Pangalagaan at Parangalan” (Valuing, Nurturing, and Honoring Indigenous Peoples and Indigenous Knowledge), it reminds us of the importance of protecting their heritage and empowering their communities.

This month raises awareness about the unique traditions, wisdom, and challenges of Indigenous Peoples. It highlights their right to own ancestral lands, govern themselves, and participate in decisions affecting their lives. By preserving their knowledge and practices, we also learn sustainable ways of living and find solutions to modern problems.

Honoring Indigenous Peoples strengthens their pride and identity while fostering unity among all Filipinos. By celebrating their contributions and supporting their rights, we ensure their culture and legacy continue to inspire future generations.
